- Sample: 60 male and female archers aged 18–70 (mean 41.92, SD 11.04), recruited from archery clubs in Catalonia, with an even gender distribution.23
- Design: a quasi-experimental pre–post study with a control group (roughly 30 experimental and 30 control), in which all participants completed 20 neurofeedback sessions in two phases, but only the experimental group received instructions to increase alpha activity.35
- Intervention: EEG-based alpha (α) neurofeedback for self-regulation toward a calm state, reinforced with gamification (a low-cost, accessible interface, e.g., controlling a miniature car) to increase motivation and engagement.23
- Rationale cited: prior EEG research links reduced alpha-band power to increased stress, so training voluntary alpha up-regulation is used to target anxiety control during shooting.3
- Positive results: the intervention produced a significant increase in alpha activity and in “success” scores, and improved emotional self-control and athletes’ subjective experience while shooting.23
